Do Riches Guarantee Happiness?

It's a pretty common thought which says that if you have lots of money, it's guaranteed to make you happy. But is this really the truth? Unfortunately it's not. Money doesn't automatically bring happiness, contentment or peace. Only Jesus can do this. There's an article in today's USA Today which explains how the USA easily has the highest income per household at $102000. However, the USA is far from being the most happy or satisfied nation. You can check the article out at http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2012/05/study-usa-does-well-in-wealth-not-so-much-in-happiness/1#.T7unao5Z6fQ. I've personally been around people who have millions of dollars to their name and yet there seems to be so much turmoil within their marriages, their family and personal lives. Money is not necessarily the cure for happiness and joy. Proverbs 10:22 definitely comes to mind when it says, "The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it." All too often we do everything we can to have riches, yet it's the Lord who makes a person rich. And not only that, but if it's the Lord who does it, He adds no sorrow with it. Plus I've seen this firsthand. I do know people who the Lord has richly blessed financially and He has added no sorrow with it. And I must say that these people are some of the most giving and generous people I know. If your desire is for riches, make sure it's the Lord's doing, because you'll definitely not want sorrow to come along with it.
