Gossip's Poison

Our culture thrives on gossip. It's the main focus of many television shows, magazines and websites. But something we easily forget is that gossip is like poison. Not only does it affect those spreading it, but also affects those whose ears hear it. In the Message Proverbs 17:4 tells us, "Evil people relish malicious conversation; the ears of liars itch for dirty gossip." Are you someone who relishes malicious conversation? I know it's fun to talk about things, but don't let gossip's poison take you down. Your ears should long for things that will build you up and strengthen you. Ephesians 4:29 encourages us to "Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them." If this is the case then why would I want to tune my ears towards anything that's dirty gossip? I know it's easy to want to listen to what others are saying, but don't forget that gossip is like poison. It will affect you. And don't forget, "Gossip is the devil's radio, so don't be his DJ"!
