In reading Proverbs 19 today, there are two warnings against slothfulness. First of all, is slothfulness even that big a deal? It sure is! It's one of the biggest battles our culture faces. People who will not take action and get something done. Whether it's relates to work and providing, schoolwork, and many other areas, it's a mindset and attitude we should avoid at all costs. But a person doesn't simply become lazy or slothful. They make many little choices and decisions that add up and lead them to this dangerous place. One area I'd love to see people breakthrough is in the area of work. People can be so lazy and frequently will only do the minimum that's required, if that. Proverbs 18:9 tells us, "
A lazy (slothful) person is as bad as someone who destroys things." Is this truly a reputation a person should want? To be a destroyer? Breaking a slothful mentality is a daily choice that requires daily decisions. It's one of those battles where attacking inaction and indecision will be a necessity. I think about other generations in history and wonder what they'd have to say about the slothful mentality that our culture has embraced? And by the way, thank you to every hard working man and woman who often go against the grain when it comes to work ethic. You are examples to everyone who will watch and learn. Pray that slothfulness will be crushed!
