As You Wish Buttercup...

Someone recently asked me what I thought were some keys to a successful marriage. Obviously, making Christ the foundation is the most important. But even after doing that there are some other things that can be done to make a marriage successful. The one I want to mention here is serving your spouse and putting them first, before yourself. As I'm writing this I can't help but think of the movie "The Princess Bride" and Wesley, who does everything possible to serve his Buttercup. As a husband I choose to lay my life down for my wife. I serve her, prefer her and make her feel like she's the most important and special person to me in the entire world. This sometimes means prefer her desires and what she'd like over what I'd prefer. I love what the Message says in Ephesians 5:25-28 about this, "Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage." Today I'm going to make my wife feel like she's the most important person in the world. As you wish Buttercup :)
