Want to Stay Out of Trouble?

This morning, one of my son shared a verse with me the Lord had put on his heart. It's one of those verses that if we listened to its wisdom, it would definitely make things so much smoother for us. He shared with me Proverbs 21:23 which tells us, "Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble." The tone of this verse comes across strong, but obviously there's a reason for this. If you're like me, at times we say things that we wished we hadn't. Things seem to come out of our mouths which at times, shocks and surprises us. It's one of the things which gets us into trouble more than just about anything else. It's amazing at how many verses there are in the Bible, which deal with those things which come out of our mouths, especially those things which are not good. What if we chose to do what this verse says to? What if we watched our tongue and chose to keep our mouths shut (when we need to)? The fruit of heeding this verse is something everyone wants more of, and that's staying out of trouble. So much of the trouble we encounter is self-inflicted, due to what we choose to say. Many times we want to say something, knowing it will probably produce trouble, yet we go ahead anyway and reap the consequences. Today I encourage you to choose your words wisely. Take heed to the wisdom of Proverbs 21:23 and enjoy staying out of trouble. Remember that your words are like squeezing a tube of toothpaste. Once you've squeezed the toothpaste out, you can't put it back into its tube. It's out forever.
