Let It Go...

On my drive home there's a church with a reader board that has some of the best statements. As I was driving home yesterday, this sign said, "Injustice is only as powerful as your memory of it." I thought about it for a moment and chuckled. Just like everyone else, in my life I've experienced injustice. Things done or said that were definitely unjust and unfair actions or treatment. Injustice isn't right, and unfortunately is a reality in life. I've personally experienced things that were very hurtful and grievous. It would be so easy for me to become a victim of these things and allow them to determine who I am. But in reality, I can't let these them determine my steps, my destiny or who I am. Everyone will experience injustice from time to time, the question is, will you choose to let it go, or allow it to be as real today as it was a year ago? Or ten years ago? That injustice can only be kept alive through your memory of it and living it over and over. When I look in the Bible, there are so many examples of people who experienced injustice. How about Joseph being jailed because of the false claims of his master's wife? Or Uriah's death because of David's orders? Or even Jesus Himself? As He hung on a cross, crucified because of false accusations and hatred, He said in Luke 23:34, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." Talk about some serious injustice taking place, and yet Jesus chose to forgive and not let what these men did become a vivid point of anger, bitterness or offense in His life. If we look back in our lives, all of us will find examples of injustice. The important decision is whether or not we'll allow them to be distant memories or the fuel for today's bitterness. Just like Jesus, the choice I've made is to forgive  :)
