My Future Son-in-Law...

As I take a moment to think about it, I'm in a very unique season of my life. On one hand I'm going to be the daddy of a newborn at the end of the summer, and on the other hand, I'm the father of an 18 year old daughter who is of legal age to be married. Someone recently asked me about the qualities I which could see my future sons-in-law having (don't forget I have 2 daughters and maybe a third on the way). I thought for a moment and shared a few with him. As a father, there are many qualities I would hope to see in a future son-in-law, and I hope that other fathers would also have these high on their list for their future son-in-law. I'll give you 4 here. Firstly, he must be a man of unshakeable faith, who has a solid relationship with the Lord. In marriage there can be many ups and downs, and he must be the kind of man whose faith will remain steady regardless of what's going on around him. Secondly, his love for her must be constant. Whether she is at her most glamourous or not, young or old, it doesn't matter. His love for her will be constant, lining up with 1 Corinthians 13. Thirdly, he must cherish her always, willing to lay down his life for her on a daily basis. He will follow Christ's example of what He did for the church, His bride. And finally, he must be a provider, having a work ethic that can't be questioned. He doesn't have to be a millionaire, but he must be able to provide for his family. I realize that there are probably many more and I have only given a few, but these are such important qualities to me for a future son-in-law to have :)
